Is MPH really a “fuel efficiency stat” or were they thinking “MPG”. Seems weird to me.
MPH?! You mean MPG?
MPH makes sense, MPG is Australian
Australian? What the? We don’t use Miles or Gallons downunder
MPH is a measure of speed, not fuel efficiency. MPG should be the correct answer to this clue.
This is the most questionable answer to any NYT Mini that I’ve seen. In Metric the equivalent is “L/100km” (litres per 100km). Or MPG for USA.
However in fairness to Joel Fagliano, MPH (or KPH) may be seen as a fuel efficiency stat due to the “most fuel efficienct speed” widely recognized as being 55-65mph (~88-105 kph).
So many variables though! To include velocity as a key fuel efficiency stat. E.G. Even if one’s average speed over a set distance is say 60mph if traffic conditions make you slow or increase, start or stop; will impact efficiency massively.
Summary: The best overall stat in my opinion is mpg / L/100km add it is the most usable rate that takes into account average speed, traffic conditions, rated also over time.
This was clearly an error. I demand clarification!
I don’t mean to blame anyone, but the mistake (i.e., the clue for MPH) should be corrected for fairness’ sake.

I only tried MPH against my better judgment after resisting it for a precious few seconds. I will carry the scars for the rest of my days.
